Week Two: Change of Plans, originally uploaded by absurd_hero.
I decided to put the Peter Pan Agapanthus (Agapanthus Africanus) in the corner where the walkway and driveway meet, then expand the area to the left to
accommodate more Portulaca, and to place a much larger rock where one is now and plant two Gaura lindheimeri behind it. The Portulaca that pumped out those two blossoms will actually move about 6 inches to the left of where it is now to make room for the Gaura lindheimeri .
I’m just really excited that it’s all not dying. The agapanthus is dragging ass, but I’ve read that’s expected after a transplant. The Mexican Heather is doing pretty well and the big news is that the Portulaca came back from the brink. I mean it was looking grim, and this stuff has rebounded. It took me about 4 weeks to start planting them, and I skipped some watering. I bought them before my Mom went into surgery, and after that, I was oblivious to the Portulaca. I still have 12 6 packs to plant.
I’ve been told that I planted them too close to one another, and the tag does recommend 8 inches between plantings. I left about two inches and placed 4-5 per section between the heather. There’s about 7 inches between the heather and Portulaca, or a mini-shovel’s length.
