This is my place to blow off steam and share the useful, the psychotic minutia that is my life.
- “What is this scratch/scupper crap?”
My naming of the blog was influenced by how I saw blogging, at least my participation in the (oh man I’m gonna say it) b-l-o-g-o-s-p-h-e-r-e.
Akin to a “scratch file” or “scratch disk/directory” or “temp file/directory” used by various programs/operating systems, I use this blog to post what’s temporarily passing through my mind, my life, what I come across while reading or following my interests.
I like HP’s definition:
A scratch file is a special type of external file. It is an unnamed, temporary file that exists only while it is open—that is, it exists no longer than the life of the program. HP Fortran 90 uses the tempnam(3S) system routine to name the scratch file. The name becomes unavailable through the file system immediately after it is created, and it cannot be seen by the ls(1) command and cannot be opened by any other process./ul>
This one on how Photoshop uses one isn’t bad either.
